ESPN fan chat with Chase

Joe (Glassboro, NJ): I was at last night’s game, I gotta ask…How do you guys do it in September like this? AMAZING!

SportsNation Chase Utley: It seems like the past three years we’ve had late runs in September. It does make it very exciting. We seem to play well at the end of the year. I wish I had an answer for why, but we do play well. With 12 to go we have to win as many as possible.

Mike (Ohio): Do you all ever give Ryan any crap about his strikeouts?

SportsNation Chase Utley: As long as he continues to hit home runs, he won’t hear a word from me.

Christian (High Point, NC): Hi Chase! Obligatory Jimmy Buffett question: how often do you hear ‘Mr. Utley!’, and does it drive you nuts?

SportsNation Chase Utley: I don’t hear Mr. Utley very often and I like it that way.

Chad (Savannah, GA): From a Cubs fan THANK YOU for beating the Brewers. I hope you make the playoffs.

Raymond (Baltimore): Chase (appropriately named), what has been the teams mindset during this rally?

SportsNation Chase Utley: This team has a bunch of guys with a lot of character, a lot of heart, a lot of will to win. We know that we need to win as many games as possible to make the playoffs. Our pitching has been great and we’ve had some timely hits.

tom* (parkville, md): What’s the biggest advantage of Citizen’s Bank Park over The Vet?

SportsNation Chase Utley: I didn’t have that much experience in The Vet, I probably played only 20 games there. But obviously being brand new is an advantage. Being clean is an advantage. And as a hitter, there’s not a better place than Citizen’s.

Nate (Madison): Chase, I’m a Brewers fan, why’d you have to do it? Ughhh (sigh), this sucks.

SportsNation Chase Utley: Sorry Nate. We want to make the playoffs extremely bad.

Mike (Ohio): Were you in on the Kyle Kendrick spring training prank? That was absolutely hilarious

SportsNation Chase Utley: That was hilarious. But I was not in on it.

Chad (Savannah, GA): It’s 10 AM, why are you awake?

SportsNation Chase Utley: That’s a good question. Well, because I’m doing this interview, that’s why. I normally wake up around 10. That’s my normal routine.

David: (Philadelphia, PA): Chase, what are your thoughts of the fans of Philadelphia?

SportsNation Chase Utley: I’ve enjoyed the fans here in Philly. They’re diehard sports fans. It makes it fun coming to the park every day, knowing the fans are going to be in the game. Obviously, the more positive support the better.

Pete (NC): On average, how many cheesesteaks do you eat a week?

SportsNation Chase Utley: I averaged one chicken cheesesteak sandwich per week.

SportsNation Chase Utley: The Phillies have a nutritionist and she doesn’t like cheesesteaks.

Chad (Savannah, GA): If you’re gonna join us in the MB we have to ask this question. Do you like Pop-Tarts and if so what is your favorite flavor?

SportsNation Chase Utley: I used to eat pop tarts. Strawberry was my flavor. For breakfast, eggs and pancakes works for me.

Kevin (Brooklyn,NY): Hey Chase. Who is the toughest pitcher you have faced to date?

SportsNation Chase Utley: When Dontrelle Willis was here with the Marlins, he was tough. And the closer for the Rockies, Brian Fuentes is pretty tough as well.

David Newark, DE: Pat came up big last night. Do you think he’s starting to turn on?

SportsNation Chase Utley: Yeah. Pat’s an important part of our lineup. He’s a big right handed bat right in the middle. The more success he has, the more success we’ll have as a team. Pat has the capability of doing a lot of damage by himself.

Mike (Belvidere, IL): Which stadiums are “must-sees” for big baseball fans?

SportsNation Chase Utley: Well, not being biased, coming here to watch a game at Citizen’s is nice. Going to Wrigley has to be good for a fan, as well as Fenway. Probably those three.

Pete (NC): As an alum, how did you take UCLA’s 59-0 thrashing this weekend?

SportsNation Chase Utley: Not too well. I didn’t get a chance to watch too much of the game. I watched the highlights and it was tough to watch.

Danny: (Philly, PA): As a team do you guys get more energized for a meaningful series … i.e. this 4 gamer against the brew crew?

SportsNation Chase Utley: To be honest with you, I think we have a focused team and we have the same mindset no matter who we’re playing, which I think is the right mindset to have.

Rob (Portland, OR): Chase, what’s your opinion of instant replay in baseball?

SportsNation Chase Utley: I’m all for instant replay, only for home runs – fair, foul, over the fence. I’m definitely in favor of that. I think technology is so good these days. The parks can be tough to judge at times, so having the technology in place will help.

Mike (Ohio): How do you feel about MLB players in the Olympics? Would you have played if given the chance?

SportsNation Chase Utley: I would play in the Olympics. Representing your country would be an honor. The only problem is that it’s in the middle of the MLB season, so I think it would be difficult to do, but I would do it.

Gary (Phoenix): Hey Chase what are you up to today?

SportsNation Chase Utley: Actually, I want to tell you a little bit abouty Vasoline for Men, the new men’s skin care line that’s come out. I was never much of a lotion user growing up, but now I’ve realized that taking care of your skin is extremely important, especially with all of the travel and weather changes we go through. What I like about Vasoline for Men is that it absorbs into your skin within 15 seconds. That’s important to me, so I don’t feel like I’m greasy. You can go on StrongerSkin.com to see me and Michael Strahan in a video clip. You can also see our training workouts, plus you can win some prizes.

SportsNation Buzzmaster: Thanks Chase!

I’m REALLY disappointed with how this website has been changed!!!! It not only takes FOREVER for comments to show up, but I just posted something in the Q&A. And when I hit submit, that dreaded “Website could not be found” thing popped up! What’s up with that???? Guess we can’t ask Chase questions anymore? Boooo!

Steve | on 17/9/08

Hey Chase, what do you think of Josh Hamilton and do you think he could ever be in a Phillies uniform at some time?

Norma | on 16/9/08

I went to the strongerskin.com website that Chase mentioned, and it’s “under construction”. What’s up with that??? I wanted to see video! LOL!
