Everyday, canines brighten our lives serving as therapy aides, rescue workers and beloved pets, but reported animal cruelty cases have more than tripled in Pennsylvania over the past few years. Luckily, we have extraordinary individuals like Philadelphia Phillies’ second basemen Chase Utley and his wife Jennifer Utley, who dedicate their time to better the lives of man’s best friend. Wayne Ferguson, president of the oldest canine club in the world, The Kennel Club of Philadelphia, presented Chase and Jennifer Utley along with their Pit Bull “Jack” with the first-ever Dogs’ Best Friend award at Citizen’s Bank Park on September 29, 2011.
The Kennel Club of Philadelphia Dog Shows will feature the award presentation at their Shows which will be held November 19th and 20th at the Greater Philadelphia EXPO Center in Oaks, PA. The 10th Annual National Dog Show presented by Purina® (taped on Nov. 19,) airs to more than 18 million viewers on NBC after the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. For more information on the Kennel Club of Philadelphia or to purchase tickets, please visit nationaldogshow.com.
You too can be dogs’ best friend this holiday season! Just bring an unopened bag, box or can of dog food to the Shows for our Holiday Dog Food Drive and it will benefit dogs living in area shelters.
About Kennel Club of Philadelphia: Since hosting the first major dog event at the Centennial Exposition in 1876, Philadelphia has been at the forefront of the dog fancy world. And at 136 years, The Kennel Club of Philadelphia is the oldest dog club in history. The Dogs’ Best Friend Award has been created to inspire and motivate others to contribute to animal welfare in their community and to protect our region’s dogs, whose service and companionship are a critical and enriching part of American life.
About The Utley Foundation: Since 2008, the Utley’s have hosted their signature charity event, Utley’s All-Star Animals, as a way to raise money for the Pennsylvania SPCA. Other events have included the “Save a Pet in the Park” hosted by the Phillies Wives. The Utleys started The Utley Foundation this year, which focuses on educating youth about proper treatment of animals and raising funds for the fight against animal neglect, pain and suffering.
